What we are Learning in Math

In math we are learning about patterns. We are learning about expressions. We learned about the different parts of an expression. An expression is any single number or variable, or a combination of operations involving numbers and variables. The variable is a letter that represents an unknown number. The numerical coefficient is the number that multiplies the variable. The constant is a number that doesn’t change and it increases or decreases the value of the expression.

In mental math we are learning many different strategies to make math easier. So far we have learned strategies for addition. The addition strategies that we learned are, count on, add from the left, breaking up numbers, and add on then subtract. We just finished learning about subtraction strategies. The subtraction strategies that we learned are, subtracting from the left and subtracting in parts. We are now starting to learn some multiplication strategies.
