ICT science: Forces and Structures:

In science class, we are learning about different forces and structures as a new unit. We started watching videos of construction of really tall buildings. The video we were watching was about the building of the shanghai world financial center in China. It was a building that was for offices, apartments, hotels, and restaurants, and this building was just under 500 meters tall, and had a circle constructed at the top, but was later changed to a trapezoid. Also, when it was constructed, every 12 floors, there was a safe floor area for people to stay in case of a fire, or any other problem.                                                                                                                                                                                                                When workers started constructing the building, they had to make sure it would be firmly stuck on the ground to prevent it from swerving side to side in case of a windy storm, so they had to add supports. The workers had to first install giant metal rods in the ground connected to the building to keep it stand strait and to put concrete with metal rods lying within the structure. The top trapezoid was to let wind through so it would resist moving, and also for the decoration.  In science class we are about to do a project on one big structure and do research on it, and I am very excited for it.
