What we are currently doing in Science and why I think Science is interesting :)

My Blog Post on Science
By Faith Santiago
In this blog post, I will be talking about what my class and I are learning in Science and why I think it is interesting.
In Science, we are continuing our unit in Particle Theory of Matter. Specifically, this past week, we’ve been learning about Separation Techniques and Factors that affect the solubility of a solute. To elaborate, Separation techniques are used to separate pure substances (which are substances consisting of only one type of particle) from raw materials or other materials to create new products or mixtures. There are 5 methods of separation that we learned about. The first is magnetism. Since metals are attracted to magnets, you could use magnets to remove metals from non-metals. The second is Filtration/Sifting. This method uses the property of size. If the parts of the mixture are different sizes, you can use a device that separates the smaller particles from the larger ones called a sieve or a strainer. The third method is Evaporation. As we have already studied in grade 7, Evaporation is when a liquid turns to gas after reaching its boiling point. By this, the liquid portion evaporates and the solid portion of the solution is left behind. The fourth method is distillation. In this method, the liquid portion of the liquid is heated to its boiling point, evaporates, leaving the solid behind. Then the evaporated liquid, now a gas, travels through a tube with cold water coming in it to condense it back into a liquid. When this process is finished, you now have two separate substances. The fifth and final method is Chromatography, which uses the property of absorption rate to separate different coloured substances from a solution. If you were to dip paper with some colour along the bottom of it in water, the water would move up and carry the different colours along with it.
Now, moving on to why I think Science is interesting. I think Science is interesting because it makes you analyze situations really carefully and use logic and reasoning as to why things happen and how they world. It helps broaden my understanding of the world. It is fun to learn all the Scientific Terms and do experiments. It satisfies my curiosity of the world and makes me want to learn even more. I also like it because it is what I need if I want to become a dentist, which I have aspired to be since I was little. I have already planned to take biochemistry in university. This is why I am making the most of my experience of learning Science, since hopefully studying it will help me reach my goal.

Thanks for Reading!

ELA

In ELA we have just finished are short story unit. We have also finished are test. Now Mrs. Desroches is teaching us a novel study. Mrs. Desroches is teaching us the book, Hatchet. We have just finished chapter 4. We have Mr. Thompson a university professor comes to the school to observe her.

The Hatchet is a book about a 13 year old boy named, Brian. He is going to visit his dad in the oil fields when the pilot has a heart attack. Brian has to crash land the plane. Brian is now learning how to survive and deal with the nature.

MATH BY DANIELLL!

 MATH!!! BY DANIEL!

Today I will be talking about Math. In Math we learned about how to find the area of a Parallelogram and, and we are currently learning about how to find the Area in a triangle.  To measure the Area of a triangle first you have to measure the Base and the Height.  Then Write A=BxH÷2 then let’s say my Base is 2 and my height is 3. Then I write A=2x3÷2 then you have to multiply 2 x 3 and we all know its 6, then we divide the 6 by 2 so 6÷2 which equals, 3. So that means the Area of this Triangle is 3cm2. Just remember we have quizzes every day 4, and we have a Math test November 27th, on everything we did so far, and I think we will have some bisecting as well. https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR1j7SwzrwJYgwq5ggc7KMdLQ6ty9dA6pxJJdPaUYV0t32hSYO76w

Science
This year for science we have a new teacher named Mr. Rautert. He is a nice teacher but not my favorite teacher.  In science we are going to make are thermoses for our projects. I am looking forward to making my thermos and typing up the lab report for it. We also just received our quizzes and I got 92.6% on mine. I like science it is one of my favorite subjects other than math and art. Right now in science we are learning part 2 to the particle theory of matter. In conclusion I like science this year.

What we’re doing in Social Studies

In social studies we are learning about human rights and the categories for them. Also we are working on a country project in are table groups. We have to make a name for the country, a map of it, and a flag for it. We also have to list 10 rights and responsibilities for our country.  Also we need to have the HDI score for the country and develop a plan to improve the countries quality of life. We also watched a video about nails and how they are made.
One way to make nails was by a blacksmith. Another way was an early 1900s factory. Also another way was by a modern day manufacturing factory. We also learned about rights and responsibilities and what they are. Thank you for listening for my blog post .

Gym and Sports

                                   Gym Class and Sports

In gym we are doing volleyball.  Before that we did football and fitness testing, I am looking forward to starting volleyball so I can get more practice.  For the competitive girls volleyball team, we are getting close to playoffs.  We are hoping to get a higher ranking so we do not have to play the top teams.  I hope we win our upcoming game and play well.
We have not gotten very far in gym class with learning volleyball.  So far we have done setting and serving.  Last gym class we got to play a four vs. four game, it was very fun.  I hope we get to do more fun games at the end of class and that we get to work more on volleyball.  Thank you for listening.

Blog Post
Today, my Blog Post will be about what we are doing in math. First I will start off with our measurement unit. We learned how to measure angle, constructing angels using a protractor, making parallel line segments, making perpendicular line segment. We also made angle bisectors by using a ruler, and a compass, and we did perpendicular bisectors. Lately, we had a test on this. Now we are doing area of a parallelogram. We learned that to find the area of a parallelogram its formula is B *H.  We had a day 4 quiz and now we are moving on to area of a triangle.
